In this department we have the objective of constantly improving the teaching of Social Sciences throughout the school; that includes social and civic education, citizenship education, sociology, history, geography, law and political science, and economics. The contents of our courses are aligned with the official curricula and the school's Academic Objectives, and are based on the principles of the Ignatian pedagogy.
Therefore, we aim to help our students build not only their informative and conceptual content knowledge but also the knowledge related to the acquisition of competences - transversal and social sciences specific. It is with this clear objective that we promote the teaching of a series of strategies to enhance the students' critical thinking, their ability to learn and to reflect about the content, with a clear link to the local and global reality, and to the construction of an active and responsible sense of civic duty.
It is our ambition that our students develop strategies that allow them a growing autonomy in their learning process and that, at the same time, educate them in collaborative and team work, for them to have, upon the completion of their time in our School, the necessary tools for a productive performance at university level worldwide. In other words, we wish to help students become people who are able to comfortably use the conceptual and methodological tools of the social sciences; who are able to communicate their knowledge effectively; who are curious about the surrounding world and willing to explore and interpret what they experience; who are able to support their arguments with an open mind, willing to embrace the diversity and plurality of a world in which they will find plenty of opportunities but plenty of challenges as well.
